Standing Basket (Objet)

Shiotsuki Juran Japanese

Not on view

Shiotsuki Juran’s work has influenced many contemporary basket makers in Kyūshū and has also inspired practitioners in Kansai. This piece belongs to the Beppu-based artist’s series of Flowing Lines Baskets (Ryūsen hanakago), most of which were made in the early 1990s, after he stopped participating in the Japanese Traditional Art Crafts Exhibitions and before he began integrating more flat bamboo strips in his Objet compositions.
