Search Tips for Calendar
The Metropolitan Museum's online calendar contains information about a wide variety of events and programs related to the Museum's permanent collection and special exhibitions. Some events, such as special exhibitions and workshops and classes offered by the Museum's Education Department, are posted online well in advance. Others are posted at least one to two months in advance. Most events are free with Museum admission, unless otherwise noted.
The search in this section of the Web site behaves differently from the other four searches on the site (there is a search option on the home page that "crawls" the entire site, and there are separate searches for objects in the online collection, for educational content in Explore & Learn, and for products in the Met Store). It will return ten upcoming events per page, in chronological order with soonest at the top.
Time Frame: Your search will be open-ended, from today forward, unless you select different start and end dates.
Event Type: Remember to uncheck "All Events" and select specific event types if you want to narrow your search to one or more event types. For definitions of event types, see Events & Programs.
Subject: Remember to uncheck "All Subjects" and select specific subjects if you want to narrow your search to one or more subjects. Subjects correspond to the twenty-one curatorial designations in the online collection.
Time of Day: Remember to uncheck "All Times of Day" and select morning, afternoon, or evening if you want to narrow your search to a particular time of day.
Location: Remember to uncheck "All Locations" if you want to narrow your search to one or more locations. The Main Museum is located at 1000 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan; The Cloisters is in Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park in Manhattan (see Visitor Information for directions). There are fourteen Met Stores in many U.S. states (see Met Store Locations). "Other Locations" might include another cultural institution with which the Metropolitan is collaborating to produce a special event.
Keywords or Phrases: You may type up to twenty-five characters. The search will look for exact phrase matches in event titles, descriptions, and performers. The search is case-insensitive.
You may use and and or to refine your search. You must use and if the words you have typed needn't appear in the exact order you have typed them. For example, if you type European Rooms, the search will not locate the "European Period Rooms and Decorative Arts" because the word "Period" appears between them; you must type European and Rooms.
The search will not recognize partial word matches unless you use an asterisk at the end of the partial word. You may use asterisks to allow for different variants of a word. Typing print* in the Keywords or Phrases box will locate not only those events whose titles or descriptions contain the word "print," but also those with "printmaking," "printer," or "printing" in their titles or descriptions.
