Flagon (one of a pair)

Attributed to Richard Blackwell II British

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 509

These wine flagons bear the mark of a silversmith who supplied many prominent Royalist and high-church clients during the turbulent period of the Civil War. For the sensitively chased floral ornament here, he must have employed a Dutch or Netherlandish artist.

Flagon (one of a pair), Attributed to Richard Blackwell II (British, active ca. 1646–1670), Gilded silver, British, London
