Casket with scenes of Genesis

Enameler Suzanne de Court French
Based on a series of engravings by Etienne Delaune French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 521

Decorated with stories from Genesis derived from prints by Étienne Delaune (1518–1583), this casket may have been used for jewelry. It is signed by Susanne de Court, the only known female enameler in Limoges. She created energetic and expressive, albeit somewhat awkward, figures in wonderful translucent colors.
