Dish with stenciled decoration

Manufactory Doccia Porcelain Manufactory Italian
Factory director Marchese Carlo Ginori

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 201

The blue-and-white decorative scheme of this plate is a clear allusion to Chinese porcelains decorated in this manner, while the stylization of the floral decoration—for which stencils were used—alludes to styles found in the Iznik pottery of Turkey.
