Terracotta kylix (drinking cup)

Attributed to the Painter of London E 100

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Interior, woman with phiale (libation bowl) at altar
Exterior, women at home

The decoration shows scenes in the life of Athenian women. Libations were offered by both men and women. On the outside, women appear in their domestic quarters—with a casket, alabastron (perfume vase), and sandals hung on the wall, and with a male visitor.
