Bank

Possibly Boston & Sandwich Glass Company American

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 704

The hollow knop below the bird finial on this bank contains a five-cent American silver piece dated 1833. A ten-cent coin of the same date lies in the hollow stem. As is typical of glass of eastern Massachusetts origin, the form and style of decoration suggest an English antecedent.
