Signature: Signed on the painting by Mei Qing (upper right corner):
"In the valley clouds and mist often obscure one's view,
I'm pleased that the pines and rocks in front of my door are peaceful.
My song over, I drag my staff along as I cross the stream;
My picture captures the green mountains, I look upon it with satisfaction.
On an autumn day in the jichou year (1649), I present this to my teacher Old Li for his instruction. The Daoist of Qushan, Mei Qing."
Five artist's seals are impressed on the painting. To the right of Mei's inscription:
Tongyu (zhuwen, rectangular); to the left of Mei's inscription: Mei Qing yin (baiwen, square); Yüangong (zhuwen, square); Qüxing Yüan (zhuwen, oval): and in the bottom left corner: Jiazai Jingting (baiwen, square); Yibai jushi (baiwen, square).
Marking: Two collector's seals appear in the lower right corner: Ceng cang Dai Gongwang chu (zhuwen, rectangular), Xi(?)-lu shoucang yin (zhuwen, rectangular).
