Tara

India, Bihar

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 238

This female bodhisattva holds her hands in dharmachakramudra (gesture of exposition). The stem of a flower would have supported her identifying attribute, now lost. She is likely Prajnaparamita, the wisdom goddess, whose identifier is a manuscript.
