Plate with two deer amid flowers

China

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 220

Ding ware porcelain is cherished for its unctuous white glaze and fine patterns created either from freehand carving or mold impression. The latter method was used here to depict two deer galloping amid a floral ground; the delicate pattern enhances the plate’s visual appeal.
