Inscription: Arabic, in floriated kufic script on interior of everted rim, in naskh on two bands on exterior of rim, in thuluth on upper rim.
Kufic inscription translation: "Blessings for the owners; the word al-salama, "well-being";
al-sa`ada, "happiness", al-`izz, "glory"; lisahibihi "to its owner" can be deciphered, the rest is illegible. There is a little engraved inscription beneath this, which seems to defy reading.
Partial translation of larger naskh inscription: "Might, prosperity, elevation, good fortune, plentitude, ... victory, ... diligence ... "
Thuluth inscription translation of legible words (blessings): "Constant glory, ncreasing fortune ... happiness ... victory ... The inner circle is barely legible. (Trans. Annemarie Schimmel, 28 February 1986)
