This papyrus fragment is the verso of a long legal document written in naskhi script that functioned as an official daman (guarantee) promising payment of a land tax in the month of Ramadan in the year 288 by a creditor. This piece is important because it offers a glimpse into everyday life and economic change in early Islamic society.
