This scroll is from a transcription of the Zuzōshō, a ten-scroll encyclopedia of Esoteric Buddhist iconography, or imagery, first compiled in the 1130s. The section displayed describes the wrathful Aizen Myōō, one of the Esoteric Buddhist deities known as Wisdom Kings, in text and image.
