III:3r, states that the figure in this work evolved from the artist's studies of the old masters, but also relates it to the rope–tied nude in Siqueiros' "Proletarian Victim" (1933; Museum of Modern Art, New York); notes that watercolor marks on the veso of this work an the recto of MMA 1990.4.58 "line up exactly," suggesting that these two "were once consecutive pages in the sketchbook".
