Claude Roger-Marx. Vuillard, His Life and Work. New York, 1946, p. 79, calls it "Faisan posé sur une chaise (Pheasant on a chair)" and dates it 1926; notes that it is one of Vuillard's few paintings of game.

New York, 1967, p. 213, ill., call it "Still Life in the Studio"; state that the artist dated it about 1926 for the catalogue of Exh. Paris 1938; note that the sketch clipped to the board behind the pheasant is a study for the tree in the background painting (SC XII-48, 49, 50).
