Inscription: Inscribed in both Chinese and Manzhu on a separate piece of silk mounted above the painting:
"Imperial Bodyguard of the first rank, Hu-er-cha the valiant (batuluo)"
Barehanded he rode the giant whale,
Capturing Weino in battle.
The bandits' heads were strung together
All along his long lance.
With both hands he held open the declaration of war
All the way to Balikun (in Singiang Province).
Without [even pausing] to comb his horse's mane,
He returned and reported to his commander.
In the spring of the genchen year of the Qianlong era , your servants, Liu Tongxün (1700–1773), Liu Lun (1711–1773) and Yü Minzhong (1714–1780), following the imperial order respectfully offer these words of praise."
