Stoneware with splashed glaze (Jun ware)
H. 6 5/8 in. (16.8 cm); Diam. 9 1/2 in. (24.1 cm)
Gift of Mrs. Samuel T. Peters, 1926
Although no longer used at the court, Jun ware continued to be produced in the fourteenth and early fifteenth century. Most of the vessels made at this time were intended to hold flowers or bulbs, and many have numbers incised into their bases, possibly indications of size. The number six is inscribed into the base of this container.
