Jewelry Box

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 105

This box is divided into two compartments, each closed with a sliding lid. The end batton of each lid has a hole for fitting a small knob. The two knobs could be tied together to seal the box.

The box was found in a tomb that also contained a "seweret" bead (25.3.252) and an exquisite "sa" amulet (25.3.253).
