Ring of Flowers

Tokuda Yasokichi III Japanese

Not on view

Tokuda Yasokichi III was designated a Living National Treasure in 1997, following the lead of his grandfather Tokuda Yasokichi I (1873–1956), who taught him traditional methods of Kutani glaze preparation and decoration. After 1973 Tokuda Yasokichi III invented a technique that enabled him to control the suffusion of Kutani color glazes, creating a starburst effect.
