Paste decorated under a thin, transparent glaze and thick overglaze (Mino ware, Oribe type)
H. 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm)
Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Colman, 1893
Not on view
The simplicity of design, stiffness of shape and the color of the copper glaze all reveal this piece to be a revival of Oribe ware. In the nineteenth century, many kilns started replicating earlier wares; the Oribe style was particularly popular.
