This molded plaque shows a western Tibetan stupa (burial mound), which appears to be based on stepped stupas from north India. To either side is the ye dharma inscription outlining the Four Noble Truths. This text had come to be understood as the dharma kaya (“teaching body”) of the Buddha. Such plaques sometimes functioned as empowered relics and have been found in stupas.
