The Metropolitan Museum of Art has enhanced its renowned collection yet again by the acquisition—through gifts and purchases—of hundreds of works of art. The recent acquisitions included in this section were adapted from Recent Acquisitions: A Selection: 2000–2001, a special issue of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin. To date, there is no strict classification scheme for works of art—at least none that the entire profession can agree upon. We invite you to enjoy these selections on your own terms.
