The arts of Iran from the second and early first millennia B.C. are represented in this gallery of Iranian Art generously supported by The Hagop Kevorkian Fund by fine ceramics, metalwork, sculpture, and jewelry, including finds from Hasanlu in western Iran. Works of art from Assyria and Syria from about 1400–612 B.C., including luxury metalwork and ivories from the capital city of Nimrud, illustrate the rise of the Assyrian empire.
Two glazed-brick panels of striding lions from the Processional Way at Babylon evoke the grandeur of the Neo-Babylonian city in the sixth century B.C. Sculpture, vessels, weapons, and personal ornaments in a variety of metals and techniques characterize the arts of the first millennium B.C. in the Anatolian kingdoms of Urartu and Phrygia as well as the cultures of Transcaucasia and the Black Sea region.
