The Florence and Herbert Irving Southeast Asian galleries (Gallery 244 through Gallery 250) are devoted to the early bronze cultures, spanning from the early centuries B.C. to the first millenium A.D. and to the sculpture of the Hindu-Buddhist period, eighth to eighteenth century. The latter encompass the arts of Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Major strengths include pre–Angkorian Khmer and related stone and bronze sculpture, Javanese gold jewelry and bronze sculpture, and glazed ceramics from Thailand and Vietnam.
Note: The arts of the non–Hindu-Buddhist cultures from Indonesia and the Philippines are exhibited in Gallery 355, within the galleries for the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas.
