The religious arts of Tibet and Nepal are represented in Gallery 252 and Gallery 253 by important early cloth paintings (tangkas), including rare portrait paintings, and by Vajrayana Buddhist sculptures. The early Nepalese metal, stone, and wood sculptures form a major ensemble, as do the Buddhist and Hindu painted book covers. Ritual utensils such as crowns, weapons, and libation implements form another important aspect of the displays. The tangkas and manuscript objects are rotated periodically.
