Events:
The Old Kingdom (Dynasties 3–6, ca. 2649–2150 B.C.) was the formative period of ancient Egypt. The monumentality and finely detailed sculptors' work in the temples attached to the pyramids—the most famous creations of the era—are represented here in large, granite columns and in a selection of reliefs depicting rituals and daily life. A primary focus was the human image, and examples of all the major statue types are also displayed here.
