Some of the most famous highlights of the Museum's Egyptian art collection are displayed in this gallery: pristinely preserved ancient "models" (miniatures) of workshops, a garden, a funerary procession, and six magnificent ships, all discovered in 1920 by the Museum's excavator and curator Herbert E. Winlock in the tomb of the chief royal steward Meketre in western Thebes (present-day Luxor). A wooden statue of a female offering-bearer from the same tomb is an exquisite example of Middle Kingdom woodcarving.
