This gallery provides the visitor with another opportunity to experience the monumental in Egyptian art. The granite jamb of a huge gateway comes probably from the funerary temple of Ramesses II (ca. 1279–1213 B.C.). It was excavated by the Museum in a later temple where it had been reused. The limestone relief from another gateway was once part of a gate into the palace of King Apries at Memphis (589–570 B.C.). Sarcophagi, statues, and portrait heads join the display.
