The facsimiles in this space, created in the 1920s and 1930s and a uniquely comprehensive collection, are color copies of paintings from the Middle Kingdom (ca. 2051–1640 B.C.) and the earlier New Kingdom (ca. 1550–1400 B.C.). They provide a chance for visitors to enjoy the rich colors and vivid narratives of Egyptian tomb painting. The sarcophagus in the center is decorated with creatures that the Egyptians believed populated the underworld.
