This gallery, unique in the United States, displays landscapes by Caspar David Friedrich and his Romantic followers in Dresden: Carl Gustav Carus, August Heinrich, and Johan Christian Dahl. Also shown are small, plein-air oil sketches by German, Swiss, Danish, and Norwegian contemporaries of Friedrich. The charming Biedermeier and German Realist styles are distilled in the works by Eduard Gaertner and Adolph Menzel, who both worked in Berlin.
This gallery is one of ten that comprise the Henry J. Heinz II Galleries.
