This gallery features celebrated Salon paintings acquired in the late nineteenth century by the Museum's first female benefactor, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe (1828–1887) and her cousin and art advisor, John Wolfe (1821–1894). Anchored by pictures from her illustrious bequest of 1887, the selection includes two exceptional works that formerly belonged to John Wolfe—Bouguereau's Nymphs and Satyr and Cot's Springtime—that have not been seen together since 1882. This special installation marks the 125th anniversary of the Wolfe Bequest, which entered the Museum's collection the same year as Henry Lerolle's The Organ Rehearsal.
This gallery is one of ten that comprise the Henry J. Heinz II Galleries.
