This elaborate example of Baroque interior decoration originates from a small manor house in Flims, in eastern Switzerland. The room was called the Reiche Stube ("rich room") and was used for the reception of important guests. It was built for Johann Gaudenz von Capol, an important local figure and a much-traveled diplomat and mercenary commander for the Swiss Federation. Of utmost rarity is the contemporary faience stove by David II Pfau of Winterthur. It is decorated with biblical motifs, and the intricate openwork crowning the "tower" is a characteristic feature of Winterthur faience creations.
