This gallery, as part of the Annie Laurie Aitken Galleries, contains a selection from the Museum's rich holdings of English silver, ceramics, watches, enamels, and miniatures from the mid-sixteenth to the mid-eighteenth centuries. A group of Elizabethan silver-mounted porcelain reflects the high regard for wares imported from China, and later Chinese-export porcelain is also shown.
As Britain's economy grew, London became an important international center for the production of luxury goods, attracting foreign specialists who were influential in the growth of the rococo style. Much of the silver and porcelain shown here is from the Irwin Untermyer Collection, one of the great strengths of the Museum's holdings.
