The Muriel Kallis Steinberg Newman Gallery features paintings and sculptures by American artists working in the first half of the twentieth century, from Stanton Macdonald-Wright to Florine Stettheimer and Edward Hopper. Most of these artists were attracted to and engaged with the innovative art movements in Europe (such as Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism) that they encountered in their travels abroad and in large expositions at home (for example, the 1913 International Exhibition of Modern Art, known as the "Armory Show").
