This room was originally the rear parlor or sitting room of the "princely residence" built in 1870 for carpetbag and hoop-skirt manufacturer Jedidiah Wilcox. It is a rare surviving example of a nineteenth-century room in which all aspects of the interior were designed to match. Most of the furnishings seen here are original to the house. The architectural details and furnishings reflect the Renaissance Revival style, one of the more elaborate of the nineteenth-century revival styles and considered appropriate to adorn the homes of the very rich. The term embraces the Neo-Grec and a variety of French revival styles.
