The Richard and Gloria Manney Greek Revival Parlor is a modern re-creation of a formal front parlor in a New York townhouse from about 1835. The room was designed by the Museum to showcase a rare suite of seating furniture made by Duncan Phyfe for the New York lawyer Samuel A. Foot. The only period elements are the Ionic columnar screen at the entrance with massive mahogany sliding doors, acquired from a New York townhouse, and the black marble mantelpiece, from a Greek Revival home in Rye, New York. The rest of the room was copied from existing New York townhouse parlors or based on designs found in architectural pattern books, such as Minard Lafever's The Modern Builder's Guide (1833).
