Since the inscription on the back of this figure refers to Arsinoe II as a goddess, it was made after her death in 270 B.C.E. when her cult was established by her brother and husband, Ptolemy II. Stylistic comparisons indicate the statue was created in the second half of the second century B.C.While the overall form of the statue follows Egyptian traditiions, the queen's corkscrew locks and the cornucopia (a divine attribute) she holds are Greek elements.
