  • Description

    Ankhemtenenet's bold features testify to the period's affinity for earlier non-idealizing models, whether Middle Kingdom statuary on display in the Theban region or Old and Middle Kingdom statuary in the Memphis region.
    He is wrapped in a Middle Kingdom-type cloak. His name is written on his shoulders; below is a reference to the temple of Ptah at Memphis, where the statue was probably dedicated. On the back is an offering formula with the name of Ptah-Sokar-Osiris.

    Purchased in Cairo from Panayotis Kitycas, 1907. According to Bernard Bothmer, Egyptian Sculpture of the Late Period, Brooklyn 1960, p. 12, excavated at Mitrahineh in 1892, formerly in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo JE 29878.
