This movement represents an early but short-lived experiment with the newly invented balance spring in which the fusee was omitted. The hair-thin spiral spring is attached to the balance, which is held in place by the delicately engraved and pierced cock. There are separate going, striking, and alarm trains. Delander was one ofTompion’s favored casemakers.
Signature: Movement signed: Tho. Tompion London [Thomas Tompion (1638–1713)]Marking: [1] Crab (struck twice on head of pendant, mark of French provinces in use 1838 to present, for silver, restricted warranty); [2] ND (on the interior of the case, for Nathanial Delander)
