This artwork is currently on display in Gallery 152
Over one hundred Attic vases decorated with the head and neck of a horse, all dating from the first half of the sixth century B.C., are known. It has been suggested that they were given as prizes in the same way that standardized vases filled with olive oil were given to the victors in the Panathenaic games.
