This artwork is currently on display in Gallery 684
Grenadilla, ivory, 13 silver keys. A variant of the English-style clarinet with a concealed connecting lever of the highest (speaker-) key. C was the main size used in nineteenth-century bands.
Marking: 1) (stamped) "Graves & Co/Winchester/N.H./C" beneath an eagle and above a lyre. 2) (engraved) "J.B Yale/Lee Mas" on roller touchplates; "NCL (twice, indistinctly) on band concealing speaker rod: "A" on face of tenon above speaker key.
