Faking It Symposium: Return of the Suppressed

The symposium "Truth, Lies, and Photographs" was presented in conjunction with the exhibition Faking It: Manipulated Photography before Photoshop, on view October 11, 2012, through January 27, 2013. In this talk, A. D. Coleman, an indepent critic, outlines the history of the Pictorialism movement within photography, its decline and dismissal, and its contemporary revival as an art form.

Notes

According to E. Parry Janis, LeGray's Egyptian photos were exhibited in the Salon of 1867, but in the Egyptian section.
