    Inscription: On the blade, the principal arms are those of the Gonzaga, dukes of Mantua (argent, a cross gules between four eagles sable), with an in-shield with the arms of Monferrato (in nine quarters, 1) Byzantium, 2) Bohemia 3)) Gonzaga ancien, 4) Jerusalem, 5) Aragom, 6) Monferrat, 7) Saxony, 8) Bar, and 9) Constantinople), surmounted the stemma of the monte ferrato", a cartouche bearing the Gonzaga motto, FIDES, and a ducal coronet.

    The inscription on the socket, VALLI, may be the name of the member of the ducal guard who carried this weapon, or may refer to the artist.
