Terracotta Nolan neck-amphora (jar)

Attributed to the Westreenen Painter

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Obverse, woman pouring libation for warrior
Reverse, man with staff

The subject of the decoration is a warrior's departure. Although this is a rather commonplace vase, it is worth noting the poignancy of the older man, characterized by his stick, who stands isolated on the reverse.
