Partially embossed, etched overall, and richly gilt, this splendid fragment must have belonged to one of the most magnificent Brescian horse armors of the late sixteenth century. A shaffron with matching decoration exists in the collection of Konopište Castle, near Prague. That collection combines the armories of the Este, Obizzi, and Medici families, suggesting that this crinet may have been made for a member of one of those illustrious Italian dynasties.
