  • Description

Sliced into a landscape of forms, this head is composed of sharply chiseled features and crescent-shaped tufts of hair. The sculpture was inspired by the artist's paramour at the time, Fernande Olivier (1881-1966), and was modeled in autumn 1909 in Paris after the couple returned from a summer trip to Horta de Ebro in Spain. It represents Picasso's first Cubist sculpture.
