Celadon, or green-glazed, ceramics were made throughout China from the tenth to the fourteenth century, and were used both domestically and for trade. The color of the glaze on this vase, and the dramatic pattern of cracks in the surface, allude to the style and taste of earlier periods, particularly works commissioned for the court.
