  • Description

Exemplary of late Joseon blue-and-white porcelain from the court kilns (Bunwon), this faceted jar possesses a lovely watercolor-like decoration. Plum blossoms and bamboo, originally associated with spring and summer, respectively, often appear on ceramics and in paintings of this period. Grouped together with chrysanthemums and orchids, they are known as the Four Gentlemen. Plum blossoms, bamboo, and the pine tree form the Three Friends of Winter.
