Combination Powder Horn, Spanner, and Screw Driver

Italian

Not on view

The faceted horn-shaped body is engraved with abstract wavy patterns. For filling the flask, the lid hinged at the wide end can be opened; it is fitted with a nozzle, chiseled and engraved, and a spring-activated semicircular release lever. The opposite end of the flask is provided with a screwdriver and a spring-held pivoted spanner. One end of the spanner is fitted to the wheel spindle, while the other, smaller, end was used to tighten the jaws of the cock holding a piece of pyrite. On the body are a long narrow belt hook and a loop for a cord because these flasks were hung around the neck to speed up reloading.
