Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of a Merveilleuse, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a white wedding gown, made up of a pink bonnet with a bow and a pink band tied around the chin, with large, white feathers, and a white ankle-length empire dress with short puffed sleeves, bordered by thin golden ribbons, the border of the skirt made up of two puffed stripes, also bordered by thin golden ribbons, and a golden, fringed stripe. A white scarf with semi-abstract floral motifs in the border, executed with pastel shades of purple and blue, is scrolled and placed around the shoulders. White gloves, hose, and pointed-toe flat shoes complete the outfit.
